A home office space can be functional and funky. There's no reason why your office, no matter what the size, can't reflect your personality and style. Why would you want to spend time in a space that was dull and drab? Luckily, you can design a fun home office cheaply.

Use Your Wall Space
The cheapest way to create a brand new space is to paint. You can paint the entire space or just one wal. One really cool option is to create your own chalkboard. You can paint one whole wall or merely a section with chalkboard paint. If you paint just a section, frame it with either a ready-made frame or a customized frame made of panel molding. If painting is not an option, don't fret. You can buy cork board in various shapes and sizes, attach them to the wall, and, presto, instant customized cork board. Just take a walk into any big box store and buy your own piece of sheet metal and sheet metal screws. File the edges so that you don't cut yourself, attach to your wall and, voila, you've achieved a high end look for a small amount of money.

Use Your Desk Space
Your work may be boring, but your desk doesn't have to be. Try decoupaging pictures and postcards on the top or the drawer fronts. Repaint or reupholster your chair. If storage is needed, go to the flea market for cool finds. Don't underestimate lighting. Again, try the flea market or a big box store for inexpensive desk lamps.

Organizing
If you can, install several shelves. Maximize the amount of space you have and make it work for you. Disguise your stuff so you don't have to worry about it being on display. Buy multiples, such as attractive storage bins, hat boxes, or Mason jars and use them to store papers and supplies. These items add visual interest and let you hide your clutter. A row of Mason jars holding pens, pencils and craft supplies adds a country touch to the office while a set of handsome gray bins adds a modern or even masculine air. Should you want the stainless steel memo board, magnetized spice holders make great, inexpensive holders for push pins, staples and other small items.
